Benefits of Dance Extend Beyond the Stage

Children have a plethora of creative outlets at their fingertips, ranging from painting to poetry to plucking at a guitar or piano. Dance is another popular form of artistic expression; using movement and rhythm, children as young as three years old can experiment with hip-hop, ballet, tap, and even Broadway styles to communicate their feelings – and have fun at the same time. The study and practice of dance offer numerous benefits, all designed to aid in the development of a healthy, fit, and well-adjusted child.

Physical and Health Benefits

As we observe the growing obesity epidemic in this country, it’s more important than ever to encourage children to engage in physical activity and movement. Dance is a great workout which builds stamina, strength, balance, flexibility, and coordination; it's also a fun group activity that incorporates creativity and personal expression. Involvement with dance classes instills the importance of movement as part of being healthy and physically fit.

Character Building

Dance is an excellent way for children to learn concepts of discipline, self-control, and dedication. The practice of dance helps build listening and communication skills, and enhances self esteem. Some child development experts believe dance gives children the tools to cope with bullying, since dance can increase self confidence. Mastering a piece of choreography or seeing an improvement in coordination or strength also provides children with a sense of accomplishment.

Social Opportunities

It's important for children to have the chance to form connections and build healthy social relationships from a young age. Dance classes or camps are wonderful environments in which children learn interpersonal skills by interacting with their peers in a group setting, under the supervision of a teacher.

The mission of DDA Dance Academy is to develop and foster a love of dance for children of all ages. "We want to give our children the world; we want them to be the best they can be," Deana Gentile says, and by studying and practicing dance, she believes children realize their full capabilities while developing their character and learning important skills that will serve them the rest of their lives.

A. Our facility is equipped with live feed cameras & viewing windows to observe your dancer at all times and watch them progress throughout the year. We also have Parent Observation Day.

Q. Why do you recommend ballet classes be taken in conjunction with other dance classes?

Optimal growth- Ballet provides the foundation for all forms of dance. When taking ballet a long with other dance classes it will provide the student with better alignment, poise, traveling steps, turns, jumps and leaps, all of which are important in each dance form. Much like sports, it is much easier to become proficient if you practice and take class more than once a week. The achievement that results from taking multiple classes will give students incredible joy and be a source of pride and accomplishment.
